ABOUT

”Art is the love of my life - only second to my family, of course. I share my hopes, dreams, fears, tears, smiles and laughs with it. It has seen me at my best... and at my worst. I consider Art immortal and the greatest legacy mankind can pass on. Artelomeus is all about art. Naturally, Artelomeus is most obviously about the art of music but also about everything visual, architectural and otherwise stimulating… It’s about all the beauty - and, sometimes not so pleasant things - I see around me and feel inside me every day -  squeezed into notes and lyrics. I really cannot see Artelomeus fitting or belonging to only one ‘genre’ - not now nor in the future - as pretty much every song I write is completely unique and inspired by so many new and different things from the previous songs I wrote. Some people - especially critics - have a real problem with that but luckily there are so many people in the world who just love good music and good tunes - no matter which genre they belong to. I am one of those people and I will always stay true to my own Art.”

Artelomeus was founded in London (UK) in 2008, where the Finnish-born Londoner, musician and songwriter, J-M Salni, was going from one rock club to another, searching for like-minded musicians to join his latest adventure, an alternative pop/prog/rock music project that went by the name of Artelomeus. Disappointed in the mainstream music scene of the UK and the rest of Europe at the time, he wanted to create music that would not only satisfy him as an artist but also introduce a greater variety of sounds, styles, ‘challenge’ and ‘soul’ into the mix of whatever the major audience was listening to at the time.

“I was desperately hooked on Dream Theater, Radiohead, MUSE, Jeff Buckley, David Bowie as well as Movie Soundtracks, Jazz, Classical Music and Prog in general but I also enjoyed some good old Classic Pop tunes. However, I pretty much hated everything that was on the major radio stations at the time. I had played in several bands and worked on a number of music projects but I felt that it was about time for me to start my own band... My music, my rules - no genres and no dependencies. I would just have fun with like minded musos and not care about genre constraints nor trying to ‘fit in’. I believe that back in the day that kind of attitude was called ‘Rock n’ Roll’ or ‘Punk’, right? I really didn’t care if Artelomeus would be successful or not as I would just be making exactly the kind of music I wanted to make - and, play it live for like minded people.”

Besides his other projects, J-M carried on writing songs for Artelomeus. He collaborated with a few fellow Londoners and soon after that Artelomeus released their first EPs ‘After Illusion’ and ‘Something Else’, and played their first live shows in the UK. However, J-M felt that the line-up wasn’t complete - something was still missing - and the band went through several member changes. The band released their third EP ‘California’ in December 2012, soon after J-M had returned to his native Finland. Their fourth EP ‘Delusional Dreamer’ was released in 2014 and the band toured in Northern Europe and the Baltics. Despite gaining increasing international recognition and airplay around the world, the band decided to go on hiatus after the tour.

In early March 2024, J-M Salni announced that Artelomeus will return with a new single called ‘Sunshine (No More Dancing in the Dark)' that will be released worldwide on the 28th of March through Mellsten Recording & Publishing. The first four Artelomeus EPs will also be re-released worldwide through Mellsten Recording & Publishing just a day before the new single - on the 27th or March 2024.

The Art of Artelomeus is alive and well… Stay tuned for more!

THE BAND

The Artelomeus lineup has been a living thing over the past years and tends to change according what kind of (and how many) live shows are coming up. J-M Salni is the only constant member of Artelomeus and he writes all the songs. However, he refuses to call Artelomeus his solo project as, according to him, Artelomeus only properly comes to life when some talented musicians join him and inject their musical magic into the mix.
